Cody Whittington is a senior philosophy major from Cadiz, Kentucky. He will be the first person in his family to earn a college degree. Cody is very enthusiastic about giving back to the community and devotes his considerable talents to making real, positive change in the world. Cody has been a member of the Kentucky National Guard since 2012.
This fall, students will have the option to take courses that lead to a Fermentation Science concentration within the University’s bachelor’s degree program in Chemistry. Already, excitement is high for the first such formal program in Kentucky – among students and throughout the industry.

As a student at Highlands High School in Fort Thomas, KY, Joshua Lang decided to attend Eastern Kentucky University. He has loved it ever since. Josh will be graduating this May after which he plans to attend law school. Throughout his career at EKU, Josh has competed on the nationally recognized EKU Mock Trial Team, earning several individual recognitions.
Meet Sophie Peterson from Irvine, Kentucky, a graduating senior in the Art & Design program at EKU. Her concentration is Graphic Design, however, her artistic interests range from Drawing to Printmaking. While attending Eastern Kentucky University, she played EKU Intramural Soccer and semi-pro Soccer with the Lexington Lady Stallions.
Ms. Connie Moreland is a first-generation college student from Wingo, Kentucky. She graduated in May 2015 with a B.A. degree in Economics with a 3.79 GPA (cum laude). She is a member of the Omicron Delta Epsilon International Economics Honor Society.
Becky Bloomfield seems to have a knack for getting involved with exciting career training opportunities. Becky is from Falmouth, KY and began her studies at EKU in 2011. Now entering her Senior year in the Wildlife Management major in the Department of Biological Sciences, Becky recently won a Kentuckiana Youth Chapter of Quail Forever Scholarship scholarship for 2015-16.
Candace Stanley is a graduate student pursuing her MA in English at EKU. She graduated from Eastern in May, having majored in Spanish, English, and Comparative Humanities, and received two degrees in English and Spanish.
I grew up in a small town called Pine Knot, Kentucky that is located in McCreary County. I attended Whitley County High School, which is where I was first exposed to chemistry. As a result I developed an interest in pursuing a science degree. As a freshman in college, I had no clue what type of science degree I wanted, options seemed endless.
His persistent efforts as its long-time curator made the Eastern Kentucky University Herbarium one of the largest and most diverse in the region.
His groundbreaking book, “Plant Life of Kentucky,” earned raves nationally and will serve botanists and the public for years to come.
